Inline Blocks

Students already build one master document. This puts the study tools inside it: a quiz, a timer, a transcript recorder, inserted as blocks.

I kept seeing the same thing in interviews. Students do not keep their work in separate artifacts. They build one master document and everything goes into it.

The product asked them to do the opposite: make a summary here, a quiz there, flashcards somewhere else. So this is my spin on it. One working space, and the study tools arrive as blocks you insert with a slash, the way you would insert a heading.

A concept, built to play with the idea rather than to ship.

Screens

  1. The master document. A contents list down the left runs from Classification through Clinical Pearls, Flashcards, Practice Questions and Final Exam Simulation to Sources and Citations, and the body holds a section of exam pearls above a syntax highlighted code block carrying a mnemonic. All of it is one page rather than separate artifacts.
One working space. The contents list on the left is the document, not the application.
  2. A quiz sitting inline under the Practice Questions heading, built from the content above it. A header strip reads From content above, 469 words, beside View source and Change sources. One of two questions is answered, a progress bar reads fifty percent, and four options are listed with the third selected.
The quiz reads the section above it, and says which words it used.
  3. Two more blocks in the same document. A countdown reads twenty four minutes remaining above pause and reset controls with keyboard hints, and under the Beta Blockers heading an audio transcript block is recording, showing a red waveform with pause and stop beneath it.
A timer and a recorder, sitting in the page like any other block.
